Letterpress Workshop with Photopolymer

This 1/2 day course for users of a treadle printing press has been designed for those who are either completely new to letterpress printing or want to start using photopolymer plates.  You will be introduced to the process of letterpress, unless you know it already, and then we will use a polymer plate designed by you and made by Lyme Bay Press.  This single colour workshop will begin on an Adana 8×5 and move on to either a Chandler and Price or Jardine, depending on the size of the plate and which press you would like to use.

You will be introduced to the process of mixing your own ink and make ready, making sure that you get those perfect prints. We’ll also look at the different types of papers used in letterpress printing.

We will consult with you on your design prior to you attending the workshop and have your plate ready for action.

We will spend the afternoon printing postcard size prints, on a range of papers that you can take away with you. We liaise with you prior to your session as to what you would like to print and will include the boards etc, ready for up to 100  postcard size print which you can take away with you.  Our default paper for this will be a 300gm GMUND Cotton board, but this can be upgraded by prior arrangement.  Just drop us a line and we can chat.

We will also offer avice on sourcing other items that you will need to compliment your prints.

The price for our workshop is based on one person attending, but if you would like to bring a guest and work on the same project that will be fine, but there is a small additional payment.

PLEASE NOTE: These workshops are not suitable for children under 12 (due to the strength and patience needed to operate the press), or those who cannot stand for long periods of time. If you have any questions about this please do drop us a line.

It’s worth booking when your design is complete and confirming dates with us then, if you know your dates but have no design, get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.

Our workshops are based on a 1 to 1 workshop, but you are OK to bring a guest if they are working on the same design.  We can offer 2 person workshops, where each person works on their own design, the price for this will be twice the single person cost and there will be times when there will be more than one other person in the workshop.

Cancellation Policy: Because we work with your dates, there should be no reason to cancel but we appreciate that sometimes things happen that mean a change in plans.  If we can change your date to another day, this can be done at no extra cost. Two weeks’ notice of cancellation is required for a full refund, unless we are able to fill your spot with less notice, in which case we will always do our best to be flexible.
