Adana for Beginners Workshop

This 1/2 day course for beginners on an Adana 8×5 or Quarto flatbed printing press has been designed for those who are completely new to letterpress printing.  You will be introduced to the process of letterpress, shown how to compose type by hand using a composing stick and how to lock it up in the chase, creating a forme.

You will be introduced to the process of mixing your own ink and make ready, making sure that you get those perfect prints.

If you prefer not to hand compose your own type we have a selection of image blocks that you can use to print from, or you can use some wood type.  We will spend the afternoon printing postcard size prints, on a range of papers that you can take away with you.

You can upgrade to greetings cards if you so wish.

The price for our workshop is based on one person attending, but if you would like to bring a guest and work on the same project that will be fine, but there is a small additional payment.

PLEASE NOTE: These workshops are not suitable for children under 12 (due to the strength and patience needed to operate the press), or those who cannot stand for long periods of time. If you have any questions about this please do drop us a line.

Cancellation Policy: Because we work with your dates, there should be no reaason to cancel but we appreciate that sometimes things happen that mean a change in plans.  If we can change your date to another day, this can be done at no extra cost. Two weeks’ notice of cancellation is required for a full refund, unless we are able to fill your spot with less notice, in which case we will always do our best to be flexible.
